PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team followed up a 6-0 win over Chatham on Saturday to turn around and face the Cougars again less than 24 hours later to beat them 11-1.
Plattsburgh started the game by pumping in four goals in first period before finding the back of the net six times in the second.
Freshman Kayla Meneghin continues to turn heads as the Clifton, N.J., native registered a hat trick in Sunday's contest.
Mengehin scored two in the second as she scored 5:20 into the middle frame and then again with just five minutes remaining. For the second consecutive day the freshman scored a shorthanded goal which came with under five minutes left in the third to add the exclamation point and give the Cardinals a 11-1 lead.
Meneghin continues to lead the Cardinals in goals and points as the two-time raining rookie of the week scored five goals in this weekend's series against Chatham.
Giovanna Senese was the other Cardinal on Sunday to find the back of the net multiple times as the junior had her own three-point game with two goals and an assist.
14 different skaters collected at least one point on the Cardinals 11 goals.
Camille Leonard started her first game of the 2014-15 season for the Cardinals as she made 22 saves on 23 shots in the win. Sydney Isbell started her second game for the Cougars making 35 saves in the first two periods before being relieved by Emily Buckley at the start of the third period.
Plattsburgh (5-0-1, 4-0-0 ECACW) faces a quick turn-around as the Cardinals will hop on the bus to head down to Castleton on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. puck drop against the Spartans.
