PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – As the weather starts to cool off the Plattsburgh State men's hockey team is heating up, tonight defeating Buffalo State 6-1.

The Cardinals have now scored 13 goals in the past two games alone in most part from big second periods as for the second-straight game Plattsburgh has scored four goals in the in the middle frame.

Plattsburgh started the scoring by netting two in the first period courtesy of juniors Connor Gorman and Zach Popp.

Gorman found the back of the net 8:36 into the period as Zach Popp answered a 1:17 later by jamming a shot past Bengals goaltender Mike DeLaVergne left pad on a Kyle Hall rebound.

DeLaVergne would leave the game shortly after with an apparent leg injury as the sophomore goalie made six saves on eight shots in 11 minutes of play. Freshman Ian Sylves would come on in relief for the Bengals and finish out the game.

The Cardinals came out fast in the second period scoring two goals within 12 seconds in the first 39 seconds of the period.

The starting line for tonight featuring junior Michael Radisa and senior Michael Cassidy accounted for the goals.

Radisa scored on the power play off his own rebound after his initial shot was saved just to see Cassidy score off the faceoff from Hall and Mark Constantine to give the Cardinals a comfortable 4-0 lead.

Rich Botting would tally another power play goal for the Cardinals as he gathered a loose puck in the slot from a Antony Calabrese shot before sniping his own top corner over the glove of Sylves.

The Bengals would score in the second as well on a power play of their own as Jake Rosen was able to beat Cardinals Brady Rouleau and deny him of his second shutout in as many starts.

With 4:25 freshman Brandon O'Quinn would cap the scoring off on the night as he picked up his second goal in his young career.

Plattsburgh remains undefeated in the 2014-15 as they are now 4-0-0 with an identical SUNYAC record. Buffalo State however falls to 1-2-2 and will travel to Potsdam to play the Bears Saturday to wrap-up their weekend north country road trip.

The Cardinals welcome Fredonia State to the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena Saturday night at 7 p.m. who are coming off a 4-4 overtime tie with Potsdam Friday night. The Blue Devils are 1-1-3 (0-1-2 SUNYAC) as they come into Plattsburgh looking for their first conference win in a place that they haven't had a successful result since the 2007-08 season.
