Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team got its second straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win Friday evening downing the Hawks 2-0.
Plattsburgh State controlled the game flow all day but was unable to find the back of the net till the second half.
After owning a 14-2 shot advantage at the half, the Cardinals got to their scoring ways in the 69
th minute, coming from the right foot of center back Clay Sherman.
Sherman netted his first goal of the season from a free kick that was taken 25 yards out on the right side of the field by Nelson Vetter.
Vetter sent a cross into the box that was headed over to Sherman by Chris Bowden. The local homegrown Plattsburgh, N.Y., native then one-timed a shot past New Paltz goalkeeper Andres Montoya to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals would provide the dagger in the 85
th minute when Alexis Archilla added to his team high tenth goal.
Fellow forward Nicholas Laurent streaked up the left side sending a service into the box that connected with Archilla who simply touched the ball into the goal. Archilla now leads the SUNYAC in points with 22 and goals with 10.
On the day, the Cardinals finished with a 29-5 shot advantage. Jordan Mitchell earned his fifth shutout of the season making one save. Montoya finished the evening with ten saves.
After dropping its first two SUNYAC games this season, Plattsburgh State has rebounded nicely to win its past two to get back to .500 in the conference and 7-5-1 (2-2-0 SUNYAC) overall. New Paltz is still in search of its first SUNYAC win as they are 3-9-1 (0-4-1 SUNYAC).
The Cardinals get back to action Saturday at the Field House Complex against the NSCAA 5th ranked Oneonta Red Dragons at 1 p.m.
