Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team improved to 5-0-1 on the year with a 2-1 win at Clarkson Wednesday night in a non-conference game at Hantz Turf Field.
The Cardinals quickly jumped on the board on Alexis Archilla's fourth of the year with just 9:33 gone in the game. A corner kick by Fabian Chaparro made its way directly to Archilla and the Cardinal rookie found the upper right corner with a header shot to give Plattsburgh State a 1-0 lead.
Plattsburgh State extended its lead to 2-0 in the 21st minute when a cross pass from Archilla found Nick Parrella. Parrella sent the ball past a diving Alex White for his third of the season.
With three more points in Wednesday's game, Archilla leads the Cardinals' offense with four goals and 10 points.
The Golden Knights (1-4-0) closed out the scoring at 31:48 with a goal from Tucker Wilcox that made it just past the left post to make it a one-goal game.
Plattsburgh State held off Clarkson in the second half as the Golden Knights were unable to get another shot on goal. The Cardinals finished the evening with a 13-7 edge in shots and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper John Toper did not record a save in his third win of the year for Plattsburgh State. White made one stop in the loss for Clarkson.
The Cardinals return home Saturday for non-league matchup against Skidmore on Meet the Cardinals Day, sponsored by the Clinton County Youth Bureau. Free "Go Cards!" wristbands will be given to all kids who attend the game wearing their team jerseys while members of the Cardinal men's soccer team will be on-hand for autographs following the game. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Field House Turf Complex.
