CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior goaltender Mathieu Cadieux stopped all 31 shots he faced to help lead the top-ranked Plattsburgh State men's hockey team to a 4-0 win at Cortland in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest Friday night.

While the final score appears a bit lop-sided, much of the night the Cardinals found themselves in a tight game. After scoring the first goal late in the first, Plattsburgh State clung to the one-goal lead until midway in the third when the Cardinals erupted for three late goals to reach the 4-0 final.

Junior Alex Brenton gave Plattsburgh State a 1-0 lead at 15:14 of the first period with a wrist shot from the left side. Michael Radisa and Michael Cassidy assisted on Brenton's second of the season.

Lackluster second periods continue to be a bugaboo for the Cardinals and Friday night proved to be no different. Cortland outshot Plattsburgh State and had the better of the play in the second stanza, but Cadieux made 12 saves in the period to keep the Red Dragons off the board.

Mark Constantine scored from the left side in a crowd at 9:52 of the third to spark the Cardinal offense. Dillan Fox added to the lead at 13:49 with his team-leading seventh of the year before rookie Kyle Hall tallied his first collegiate goal two minutes later at 15:49.

The Cardinals finished the night with a 40-31 advantage in shots on goal. Plattsburgh State went 0-for-3 on the power play while Cortland went 0-for-4.

Cadieux earned his third shutout of the season and matched a season-high with his 31 saves. Cortland's Lyle Rocker stopped 36 shots in the loss for the Red Dragons.

With the win, Plattsburgh State improves to 9-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in conference play to maintain its three-point lead on Geneseo in the SUNYAC standings. Cortland drops to 3-5-2 on the year and 3-4-1 against league opponents.

The Cardinals close out the road trip with a highly-anticipated matchup in Oswego. The semester finale gets underway at 7 p.m. Saturday night at the Campus Center Ice Arena.
