Box Score BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Three unanswered goals by Brockport sealed the fate of the Plattsburgh State men's soccer team, who suffered a 3-1 loss to the Golden Eagles Friday afternoon a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) showdown.
The Cardinals took control of the game early in the first half when Ethan Votraw found himself wide open at the top of the box before burying his shot into the top right corner of the net at 8:52. Alexis Archilla picked up an assist on Votraw's third of the year.
Plattsburgh State held Brockport without a shot through the first 20 minutes of the game but Peter DiLorenzo fired the Golden Eagles' first shot of the game past Cardinal goalkeeper Mitchell Jordon to tie the game at 1-1 in the 23rd minute.
The two sides remained tied until 73:11 when Mark Sylvia knocked in a rebound to score the go-ahead goal for Brockport. The Golden Eagles added one more at 87:06 when Chris O'Gorman scored off a pass from Sylvia.
The Cardinals finished the day with a 13-10 advantage in shots, including a 7-4 edge in the first half. Both teams drew three corner kicks.
Jordon made three saves for the Cardinals in the loss. Brockport's Casey Sullivan recorded five stops in the win.
With the loss, Plattsburgh State drops to 11-4-1 overall and 5-3-0 in the SUNYAC. The Cardinals enter the final regular season conference game with 15 points, meaning Plattsburgh State will finish no lower than fourth in the league standings. With the win, Brockport also secured a spot in the SUNYAC Tournament, improving to 9-1-5 on the year and 4-1-3 in the league.
The Cardinals travel to Geneseo tomorrow for a 1 p.m. matchup before closing out the regular season on Wednesday at St. Lawrence.
