Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – After two gut-wrenching losses in the last week, the Plattsburgh State men's soccer team got back on track with a 2-0 win at New Paltz in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Two first-half goals provided all the offense the Cardinals would need on this day. Senior Tom Greene continued his recent hot streak with his fourth of the year at the 3:46 mark off a rebound deflection in the box. Saturday marked the fourth straight game that Greene has recorded a point and his third straight game with a goal.
With a curving shot off a free kick that found the left corner of the net, senior midfielder Matt Hamilton extended the Cardinals' lead to 2-0 at 21:35 to round out the scoring. The unassisted goal brings Hamilton's total to four on the year.
The Cardinals outshot the Hawks, 15-9, while corner kicks were even at five apiece.
Plattsburgh State goalkeeper Mitchell Jordon was rather untested in Saturday's contest, making one save to pick up his fourth shutout and improve to 6-2-0 on the year. New Paltz's Andres Montoya recorded seven saves in the loss.
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 9-3-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the SUNYAC. The Hawks fall to 3-9-2 with a 2-4-0 mark against league opponents.
Plattsburgh State returns home next weekend for its final two home games of the regular season. The Cardinals host Buffalo State on Friday at 3 p.m. before closing out the weekend against Fredonia at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
