SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s tennis team (5-3) lost a closely contested match, 5-4, Saturday afternoon at Union College.
The Cardinals earned two 8-6 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles before dropping No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-3. After winning her doubles match with Samantha Engebrecht, senior Jessica Paquette picked up an easy 6-1, 6-0 win at third singles to give Plattsburgh an early 3-1 lead.
Losses in singles play hurt Plattsburgh as the Cardinals dropped first, fifth and sixth singles to fall behind 4-3.
Engebrecht’s rally in No. 2 singles evened the score for Plattsburgh. The Cardinal sophomore lost the first set, 6-3, but bounced back to take the final two sets to earn the point.
Saturday’s match was decided at No. 4 singles between Plattsburgh’s Stephanie Omlin and Union’s Lauren Main. Main took the first set, 6-2, but Omlin took the second set by the same score. Main secured the win for Union by winning the final set, 6-2.
