PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Coming into Wednesday night’s game, it appeared offense would be tough to come by but nothing was further from the truth as the Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team (15-5-2, 13-1-2 ECAC West) and the Norwich Cadets (19-2-1, 15-0-1 ECAC East) combined for 15 goals in a non-conference game at the Stafford Ice Arena. Norwich’s Renee Lortie scored the game-winner 45 seconds into overtime as the Cadets took an 8-7 decision from Plattsburgh in front of a crowd of 1,011.

Each side went goal for goal in all three periods of regulation with game-tying goals scored on six different occasions. Eight power-play goals were scored between both teams and two players notched a hat trick in the offensive onslaught Wednesday night.

Jillayne DeBus finished with four points for the Cadets. DeBus tallied her first of the night at the 18:53 mark of the first period to send the teams to the locker rooms knotted at 2-2. Her 13th of the year came on the power-play with an assist from Tyne Gove. DeBus scored two more goals in the third period before assisting on the game-winner in overtime.

Julie Fortier, Tyne Gove, Brittany Sharman and Meaghan Papagno each tallied two points for the Cadets.

Shannon Stewart led the Plattsburgh offense with three goals and two assists. Stewart gave the Cardinals a 3-2 lead early in the second period, scoring a power-play goal from Teal Gove and Allison Era. Stewart’s second of the night tied it up at 5-5 with 6:19 gone in the third period. She completed the hat trick at the 12:24 mark of the final stanza to give the Cardinals a 7-6 lead at the time. Gove, who contributed four points on the night, and Alyssa Parke assisted on Stewart’s third goal.

Norwich outshot Plattsburgh, 39-32. Cadets’ goaltender Kelly Fisk recorded 25 saves to improve to 12-1-0. Plattsburgh’s Sydney Aveson turned away 31 shots in the tough loss.

The Cardinals went 4-for-4 on the power-play while the Cadets were 4-for-7.
