PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team (15-4-2, 13-1-2 ECAC West) dominated from the first face-off in a 10-0 win against SUNY Cortland (4-13-1, 2-11-1 ECAC West) Sunday afternoon at the Stafford Ice Arena.
The Cardinals scored three in the first, four in the second and three again in the third period to hit double-digits. Kylie Klassen and Emma Rutherford were the offensive leaders of the day, each tallying two goals and two assists.
Teal Gove added two more goals for Plattsburgh, while Jordan Caldwell, Melissa McIver, Justine Fisher and Allison Era also scored in the lop-sided victory. Erika Shaubel also contributed three assists.
Plattsburgh finished the afternoon with 58 shots on goal, while Cortland had 14. The Cardinals combined for 118 shots in the two games this weekend.
Despite the tough loss, Cortland goaltender Katie Double still recorded 48 saves. Kelsey Neumann started the game for Plattsburgh and earned the win with seven saves in 30:58. Ally Ross finished up the game in the Cardinals’ net, making four stops.
Plattsburgh returns to action Wednesday for the final home game of the regular season as No. 2 Norwich makes the trip to the Stafford Ice Arena. That same night, the Cardinals will be hosting “Stuff Stafford for Camp Ta-Kum-Ta” which will feature numerous free giveaways and raffle prizes throughout the night. Members of the Cardinal women’s team will also be wearing special event jersey, which are currently part of an online auction on gocardinalsports.com. All proceeds for the game, which is scheduled for 7 p.m., will benefit Camp Ta-Kum-Ta.
