PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. –A game littered with fouls finished with the Plattsburgh State men’s basketball team (7-14, 5-9 SUNYAC) losing 63-60 to Fredonia State (12-7, 7-6 SUNYAC) in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Saturday on Senior Day.
Prior to the game the Cardinals honored their three seniors, Ketema Brooks, Josh Bruno and Junghoon Roh. Bruno was a part of the 07-08 SUNYAC Championship winning team, while all three seniors were members of the 09-10 SUNYAC Championship winning team.
The Blue Devils trailed for most of the game, but Julius Bryant nailed a free throw shot with 3:47 left in the game to give them the lead. John Perez hit back 1:30 later to give the lead back to the Cardinals, but Amir Billups drained a three pointer with 39 seconds left to give the Blue Devils the lead for good.
A game which saw 47 fouls and three players foul out of the game was decided at the free throw line. The Blue Devils shot 26-of-35 from the charity stripe and the Cardinals shot 18-of-25.
Perez was 6-for-7 from the line and scored 14 total points, while Bruno notched 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Shavar Fields added eight points and eight rebounds.
Bryant led the Blue Devils with 25 points, including going 13-for-18 from the free throw line. Leonard Smith was 9-of-10 from the line and scored 14 points, while Amir Billups added 13 points.
The Cardinals take to the road next Friday when they visit Potsdam for an important SUNYAC matchup.
