Men's Basketball Drops Crucial Game at Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men’s basketball teams’ quest for a post season berth suffered a setback Friday night. The Cardinals (7-15, 5-10 SUNYAC) lost on the road 67-54 to SUNY Potsdam (5-17, 3-12 SUNYAC) in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action.
 
Despite leading by five with just under seven minutes left, the Cardinals finished slowly and allowed the Bears to take a crucial victory in the hunt for a playoff berth.
 
The Bears shot an impressive 40 percent from three-point range, compared to the Cardinals 15.8 percent.
 
Shavar Fields led Plattsburgh with 19 points and four rebounds. John Perez added 10 points of his own on 4-of-8 shooting, while Ketema Brooks scored eight points and added three assists. Brooks is now just three assists short of breaking the program’s all-time record, which stands at 370. Ezra Hodgson also scored eight points after going 3-for-6 from the floor.
 
The Bears were led by Curtis Pierce and his 19 points. Pierce shot 7-of-15 from the field, while Josh Lambert scored 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
 
The Cardinals will travel to New Paltz for another crucial SUNYAC game Tuesday at 6 p.m.
