Women's Hockey Puts Together Big Second Period to Top Buffalo State, 5-0

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team rattled off four goals in a 10:09 span of the second period en route to a 5-0 win at Buffalo State in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West Division game Saturday afternoon.
 
Plattsburgh State peppered the Bengals in the first period, outshooting Buffalo State 15-2, but Jordan Lee kept the Cardinals off the board. The Cardinals finished the day with a 40-11 advantage in shots on goal.
 
With the win, Plattsburgh improves to 8-0-1 overall and 4-0-0 in the conference. Buffalo State drops to 3-5-0 on the year and 2-3-0 against league opponents.
 
Bridget Balisy got the Plattsburgh offense going with her first collegiate goal at the 7:49 mark of the second period. Less than two minutes later Shannon Stewart made it 2-0 with an assist from Teal Gove.
 
Chelsea VanGlahn extended the Cardinals’ lead at 13:56 with a power-play goal from Breanne Bennett and Emma Rutherford. Morgan MacInnis closed out the period with her first of the season at the 17:58 mark from Gove and Stewart.
 
MacInnis added her second of the afternoon at 8:37 of the third to round of the scoring for Plattsburgh. Stewart picked up an assist on the Cardinals’ fifth goal, giving her a three-point day.
 
Plattsburgh State’s Ally Ross stopped all 11 shots she faced to earn her third win and shutout of the season. Lee suffered the loss for the Bengals, making 28 saves through two periods. Sarah Quigley stepped in for the third period, recording seven of eight shots.
 
The Cardinals wrap up the weekend in western New York with a 2 p.m. matchup at Buffalo State Sunday afternoon.
