BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s tennis team dropped its final match of the 2012 season, 5-2, to Oneonta State at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
The Cardinals got off to a great start winning two of three doubles matches. Jessica Paquette and Samantha Engebrecht picked up a big point at No. 1 doubles defeating Oneonta’s top pair Danielle Browarski and Lauren Skolnick by a score of 8-3. The Cardinal pair of Paquette and Engebrecht finishes the season with a 9-3 record.
Rachel Hodnett and Caitlin Belladone defeated Oneonta’s Brynn Sussman and Abby Smith, 8-5, to finish the year with a 9-3 record at No. 2 doubles. The Red Dragons earned their first point at No. 3 doubles as Colette Lankowicz and Emily Maggiore topped Plattsburgh’s Sam Fasciano and Stephanie Omlin.
Despite the strong start, Plattsburgh struggled in singles play. Oneonta earned the victory with points at first, second, third and fifth singles. The remaining matches were halted once the Red Dragons secured win.
Geneseo went on to win its second consecutive SUNYAC title and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Div. III Tennis Championships in May of 2013.
Plattsburgh finishes the 2012 season with an 8-5 record, giving the Cardinals their first winning record since 2006.
