Women's Hockey Hands Elmira First Conference Loss of the Year

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team scored two in the first and two in the third en route to a 4-1 win at Elmira (15-2-1, 10-1-0 ECAC West) in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women’s West division game Saturday afternoon.
 
Plattsburgh (13-3-2, 11-0-2 ECAC West) scored two goals less than a minute apart in the first period. Justine Fisher put the Cardinals on the board with her fifth of the year from Jordan Caldwell at the 12:29 mark. Fifty-two seconds later Morgan MacInnis made it 2-0 Plattsburgh from Teal Gove and Shannon Stewart.
 
Lindsay Mitchell scores the Soaring Eagles’ lone goal of the afternoon at 2:33 of the third period. Ashley Ryan picked up an assist on the goal.
 
The Cardinals responded later in the period with two more goals to put the game away. Stewart tallied her seventh of the season on the power-play at 7:48 before Helen Giroux scored an empty-net goal at 19:20.
 
Elmira outshot Plattsburgh 45-31 but went 0-for-7 on the power play. The Cardinals were 1-for-5 on the afternoon.
 
Sydney Aveson continued her stellar play for Plattsburgh, turning away 44 of the 45 shots she faced to improve to 12-2-2. Elmira goaltender Lauren Sullivan recorded 27 saves in the loss.
 
Plattsburgh and Elmira wrap up the weekend series tomorrow at 3 p.m.
