MIDDLEBURY, VT. – The Plattsburgh State men’s basketball team (6-10, 4-5 SUNYAC) lost 73-54 to top-ranked Middlebury College (17-0, 5-0 NESCAC) Tuesday.
The Panthers trailed 4-2 early before going on a 10-0 run to take a 12-4 lead at the 11:53 mark. The lead grew to as many as 12, with the Panthers holding a 28-16 advantage with 5:02 remaining in the first half. The Cardinals came within six, before a late tip-in from Jack Roberts gave Middlebury a 32-24 lead at the intermission.
Plattsburgh cut the lead to five twice in the second half, with Middlebury slowing extending its advantage. Leading 54-45, the Panthers scored 16 of the game’s next 18 points over a 5:27 span, taking a 70-47 lead with 2:06 remaining.
Shavar Fields notched 16 points on 5-of-14 shooting and John Perez added 12 points and 7 rebounds. Shamoy McIntosh went 2-for-2 from three-point range and finished with nine points.
Ryan Sharry led the Panthers with 20 points,13 rebounds and four blocks in the game, to go along with his 10-14 shooting from the floor. Nolan Thompson scored 14 with eight boards in the win and Dillon Sinnickson added 10 points.
The Cardinals will host a pair of State University of New York Athletic Conference games this coming weekend. Friday will see the Cardinals take on Oswego State at 8 p.m. and Saturday SUNY Cortland visit Memorial Hall at 4 p.m.
