Cardinal Men Finish Fourth at St. Lawrence Invitational

CANTON, N.Y. 
- The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team scored 57 points to finish fourth at the Saints Indoor Invitational held on the campus of St. Lawrence University over the weekend. St. Lawrence won the event with 164 points. Brockport placed second followed by the University of Ottawa. Oswego State, Utica Royal Military College and St. John Fisher rounded out the field.

The Cardinals had eigth top-five finishers in track events. Kevin Mercer was one of the Cardinals' top performers in the first meet since the winter break. Mercer won the 400-meter dash in a SUNYAC-qualifying 51.72 seconds and 1.18 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. Mercer also hit a conference-qualifying mark in the 200-meter dash, placing fourth in 23.57 seconds.

Adam Shearer was second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:00.62, qualifying for the SUNYAC Championships next month. Ryan Douglas finished third in the mile run while Josh Mitchell ran to a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter run.

The distance medley team of Mitchell, Trevor Kent, Dylan Hedderman and Ryan Millar took second place in 11:10.70. Plattsburgh also had teams finish fourth and fifth in the same event.

In field events, Ryan Barcomb qualified for SUNYAC's in the long jump. Barcomb finished second with a 6.32-meter leap.
Devin Scott was fourth in the high jump. Ben Depo and Anthony Russo were ninth and 10th respectively in the shot put event.

The Cardinals return to action this weekend at Boston University for the Terrier Invitational.
