PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Despite a lack of offensive opportunities in the second half, the Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team was able to fend off the Norwich Cadets to pick up a 2-0 victory in non-conference action at the Plattsburgh State Soccer Complex.
The Cardinals improve to 3-0, while the Cadets drop to 1-3 on the year.
Joe Aratari gave the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game, scoring his first goal of the year.
Plattsburgh took a 2-0 lead into the half on Mike Payne’s goal with five second left in the first half. Freshman Jordan Reeve flicked the ball off a throw in by Steve Zacharczyk to set up Payne’s first of the season.
The Cardinals held a 13-2 edge in shots after the first half but only mustered three shots after the half to finish the game with a 16-5 advantage. Plattsburgh took 11 corner kicks while Norwich had four, all of which came in the second half of play.
Cadets goalkeeper Alex Toomey suffered his second loss of the season, making five stops in the effort. Andy Heighington was untested in his third victory.
Plattsburgh hits this road this weekend for a non-conference game at Utica College on Saturday afternoon.
