Ruiz's 29 Points Not Enough to Lift Plattsburgh

BROCKPORT, N.Y. —
Plattsburgh State guard Chris Ruiz matched his season-high with 29 points, but Brockport's Gerald Williams was the high scorer of the game with 30 as the Golden Eagles bested Plattsburgh in State University of New York Athletic Conference action, 93-77.

Williams shot 9-for-12 from the floor, including 5-for-6 from three land, to gather his season-best 30 points. All five Brockport starters, Williams included, finished the game in double digits in scoring. 

The Golden Eagles held just a three-point halftime lead but ran away with the game in the second half, outscoring the Cardinals by 12 while shooting 53.6 percent. 

The game's difference came from behind the three-point arc, as Brockport shot 12-for-20 as a team, including 5-for-7 in the second half, to Plattsburgh's 4-for-13 for the game. Brockport players also dished out a combined 23 assists.

Ruiz's 29 point came on 9-for-17 shooting from the floor and hitting 10-of-11 free throws. Errol Daniyan was the game's leading rebounder with nine. Steve Thomas (13), Carl Munnerlyn (11) and Ketema Brooks (10) all hit double digits in scoring for the Cardinals.

With the win, Brockport improves to 10-9, 8-4 SUNYAC. Plattsburgh falls to 13-6, 9-3 SUNYAC.

The Cardinals close out the weekend with another SUNYAC contest Saturday against Geneseo. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
