Boxscore

GENESEO, N.Y.
– Late period goals kept Geneseo in Saturday’s State University of New Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) semifinal game, but for the second straight game, the Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team found a way to get it done in overtime. Ryan Craig scored the game-winner at the 17:47 mark of overtime, sending the Cardinals to the SUNYAC Finals with a 3-2 over the Ice Knights.

Geneseo, the No. 2 seed in the conference, grabbed the first lead of the night on a power-play goal from Danny Scagnelli with just 55 seconds to go in the first period. Colin de Jersey and Jonathan Redlick picked up assists on the goal.

Plattsburgh’s Vick Schlueter tied it up at 1-1 at 6:33 of the second period, from Jared Docking and Patrick Jobb. Dylan Clarke put the Cardinals up 2-1 with a power-play goal from Schlueter at the 5:36 mark of the third.

With 1:10 left in the third period, the Ice Knights pulled goalie Cory Gershon and sent the game to overtime on Ryan Bulach’s ninth of the year with the extra skater on.

The Cardinals held a 12-9 edge in shots on goal in overtime, but Craig buried the one that mattered from Eric Satim and Nick Jensen.

Geneseo outshot the Cardinals 39-37. Gershon turned away 34 shots in net for the Ice Knights, who finish 16-8-2 on the season.

Josh Leis gave Plattsburgh a strong effort in net, recording 37 saves and improving to 16-4-1.

In the other SUNYAC semifinal game, No. 6 Fredonia defeated No. 1 Oswego, 2-1 in overtime. Plattsburgh will host Fredonia for the SUNYAC Championship on Saturday, Mar. 5 at 7 p.m.
