Men's Basketball Advances to SUNYAC Semifinals with 72-57 Win

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.
– Chris Ruiz recorded a double-double to lead the Plattsburgh State men’s basketball team to a 72-57 victory over the New Paltz Hawks in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Quarterfinal game at Memorial Hall.  With the win, the Cardinals improve to 17-9.  The Hawks finish the season at 11-14.

Ruiz shot 7-for-21 and 7-for-10 from the free-throw line to pace the Cardinal offense with 23 points.  Ruiz reached 1,576 career points, good for second all-time in scoring.  He also picked up 10 boards for Plattsburgh.

Steve Thomas and Errol Daniyan each hit double digits in points with 21 and 13, respectively.  Harris Wichard led the Hawks with 18 points and eight rebounds.

Plattsburgh shot 28-for-67 from the field, good for 41.8 percent, while New Paltz hit 33.3 percent of its field goal attempts.

No. 1 Oswego defeated Potsdam, 64-50, and will host the SUNYAC Championship Tournament this Friday and Saturday.  The Cardinals advance to the semifinals and will face No. 2 Buffalo State on Friday at 6 p.m.
