PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team scored four power-play goals en route to a 7-0 shutout over the Utica College Pioneers in the final game of the regular season. The Cardinals improve to 19-3-3, 15-1-2 in conference play.
Teal Gove scored her team-leading 15th goal from Jordan Caldwell and Brittany Meade at 7:31 of the first period, giving the Cardinals a lead they would not look back from.
Meade put the Cardinals up by two on a power-play goal with just under three minutes gone in the second period. Meade also added two assists in Sunday’s game, leading the Plattsburgh offense with three points.
Amber Welch, Helen Giroux, Kristen Bond, Megan DiJulio and Kara Buehler all added goals in the second period. Gove, Buehler, Welch, Giroux, Bond and Steph Moon all finished the day with multiple points.
Plattsburgh outshot the Pioneers, 43-16. Mandy Mackrell made 16 stops in her sixth shutout of the season. Laurel Simer and Marissa Hotaling each spent time in between the pipes for Utica, recording 18 saves apiece.
Officials called the game with 3:29 left in the third period when a Utica player appeared to lose an edge and slid into the boards, suffering an injury.
The Cardinals honored the eight members of their 2010-11 senior class in a ceremony prior to the game.
With one game remaining on the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West schedule, seedings for the ECAC West tournament will be announced Tuesday.
