FREDONIA, N.Y. — Taylor Amarando recorded her 1,000th career point and Plattsburgh State secured a playoff spot in the State University of New York Athletic Conference as the Cardinals completed a season sweep of Fredonia with a 51-46 win.
Amarando netted a game-high 17 points on 4-for-6 shooting from the floor, giving her an even 1,000 for her career. She was also 9-for-13 from the charity stripe. Kathleen Payne was the only other Cardinals in double digits in scoring, scoring 10 points.
Amarando got her milestone point on a free throw late in the second half that gave Plattsburgh a four-point advantage with 32 seconds remaining in the game.
Plattsburgh held a 25-19 halftime advantage, the result of shooting 47.6 percent (10-for-21) and poor shooting from Fredonia, which went just 6-for-32 in the half.
Nora Campbell opened the scoring in the game with a layup that gave Plattsburgh a 2-0 lead, and they never looked back. The Cardinals led for the duration of the game.
The loss dropped Fredonia to 6-18, 4-14 in the SUNYAC, eliminating the Blue Devils from SUNYAC tournament contention.
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 8-16, 5-13 in the SUNYAC, earning the No. 7 seed in the conference tournament. No. 2 seed Oneonta will play host to the Cardinals Tuesday, Feb. 22.
