POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Potsdam Bears cut the Cardinals’ lead to one with a minute left in the second half, but Chris Ruiz sunk two free throws to secure a 51-48 win for the Plattsburgh State men’s basketball team in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action at Maxcy Hall. The Cardinals improve to 15-8, 11-5 in SUNYAC play. The Bears fall to 7-16, 6-10 in conference play.
Errol Daniyan shot 7-for-10, leading the Cardinals in scoring and rebounding with 16 points and nine boards. Chris Ruiz backed him up with ten points.
Potsdam’s Curtis Pierce and Anthony Williams each hit double figures in scoring with 10 points apiece.
The Cardinals held a four point lead at the half, but Potsdam held the edge in the second half, outscoring Plattsburgh 22-21 and going 3-for-6 from behind the arc.
Plattsburgh shot 17-for-42 from the field, good for 40.5 percent, while the Bears hit 31 percent of their field goal attempts.
The Cardinals head to western N.Y. for the final weekend of the regular season, with Plattsburgh scheduled to take on Buffalo State on Friday at 8 p.m.
