CORTLAND, N.Y.
– Megan DiJulio scored two goals an added an assist in a 4-2 win over Cortland, completing a 2-0 weekend for the Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team.  The Cardinals improve to 17-3-3 and 13-1-2 in the conference.  Cortland drops to 4-17-2 and 3-11-2.

Cortland grabbed an early lead on a Chelsey Wright goal from Shannon Hakes and Jen Whalen just 2:14 into the opening period.  At the 12:20 mark, Helen Giroux tied it up on a wrist shot from the right side with assists from Teal Gove and Megan DiJulio.

DiJulio netted the only goal of the second period at 15:20, giving the Cardinals a 2-1 lead after two.

The Red Dragons answered early in the third period to knot the game at 2-all.  Cortland’s Gina Tomei was credited with a goal that bounced off a Cardinal defender and past Plattsburgh goaltender Sydney Aveson.  Three minutes later, Chelsea VanGlahn tallied the game-winner from Jordan Caldwell.  DiJulio added her second of the afternoon at 16:54 to secure the weekend sweep.

Plattsburgh held a 51-12 margin in shots.  Aveson recorded 10 saves, improving to 6-0-0 in the Plattsburgh net.   Cortland’s Sarah Sitcov turned away 47 shots in the loss.

The Cardinals return home next weekend to close out the regular season in a two-game series against Utica on Saturday and Sunday.  Game times are 7 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
