Second-Half Shooting Troubles Doom Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. —
Nora Campbell notched a double-double and Plattsburgh State had three players in double figures in scoring, but the Oswego State Lakers handed the Cardinals a 67-47 State University of New York Athletic Conference loss Friday at Memorial Hall.

Oswego moves to 9-12, 6-8 in the SUNYAC with the win. The Cardinals drop to 6-14, 3-11 SUNYAC.

Oswego’s leading scorer, Kayla Ryan, led all scorers in the game with 20 points on 7-for-18 shooting. Jenna Rossi was also in double figures in scoring for the Lakers with 11 points.

Campbell’s double-double came with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Amarando and Kathleen Payne also had 10 points apiece, as all three players were able to find the scoring touch down low for the Cardinals. Payne also pitched in with eight of the Cardinals’ 41 rebounds.

But shooting troubles in the second half led to the Cardinals’ demise. Plattsburgh led by as much as eight in the first half but went into halftime down by three. In the second half, the Cardinals shot just 8-for-33, 24.2 percent, and Oswego never relinquished the lead.

For the game, the Cardinals shot 28.4 percent to the Lakers’ 36.4 percent. From the free-throw line, Oswego with 14-of-20 shots while the Cardinals shot 7-for-20.

Plattsburgh joined the WBCA Pink Zone initiative, which unifies coaches and players across the country in raising breast cancer awareness. The Cardinals warmed up prior to the game in pink T-shirts, which were also for sale with all proceeds going to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center Treasure Chests Fund of CVPH Medical Center. doom

Plattsburgh closes out its regular-season home schedule with a contest against Cortland Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at Memorial Hall on the Cardinals’ senior day.
