PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team snapped a two-game skid with a 2-1 win over the Middlebury Panthers in the final non-conference game of the season. The Cardinals improve to 14-6-1, while the Panthers drop to 8-6-3 on the year.
Ryan Corry opened the scoring with a power-play goal from Kyle Kudroch and Paul Puglisi at 2:08 of the first period. Vick Schlueter buried a loose puck off the stick of Dylan Clarke at 11:51 of the period, putting Plattsburgh up by two.
Three minutes later, the Panthers cut the lead to 2-1 when Charlie Strauss picked up his own rebound, circled behind the net and beat Plattsburgh goalie Josh Leis on the left side.
Middlebury held the slightest edge in shots, 28-27. Leis recorded 27 saves for Plattsburgh – 12 of them coming in the final 20 minutes. With the win, he improves to 13-3-1. Middlebury goaltender Nick BonDurant picked up 25 stops in the loss.
This Saturday, the Cardinals hit the road for the first time since mid-December, travelling to Morrisville for a conference matchup at 7 p.m.
