Boxscore and Play-by-Play
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - A rapid start from Geneseo State (2-5, 1-1 SUNYAC) helped lift them to an 84-63 win over the Plattsburgh State men’s basketball team (3-5, 1-3 SUNYAC) Friday at Memorial Hall.
The Knights scored the first two baskets of the game and never let up as they grabbed a 15 point lead at the half.
The Cardinals, who were missing John Perez with an injury, were led by Mike Mitchell with 12 points and six assists. Shavar Fields hit 10 points on 3-for-5 shooting from the field.
Geneseo’s Mike Hoy led all scorers with 14 points and six assists. Ryan Riefenhauser added 13 points of his own as the Knights controlled their defensive end, snatching a total of 22 defensive rebounds.
The Cardinals had an off night, shooting 37.3 percent from the field. The Knights hit 52.9 percent of their field goals.
The Cardinals return to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action tomorrow when Brockport visits Memorial Hall for a 4 p.m. start to wrap up the first semester.
