PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team skated to a 4-1 over the Buffalo State Bengals in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's West Division game Saturday afternoon at the Stafford Ice Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Alyssa Parke opened the scoring for the Cardinals at 1:31 of the second, scoring off a rebound of her own shot that was initially blocked by a Buffalo State defended. The unassisted power-play goal was Parke's second of the year.
Six minutes later with the Cardinals down a skater, Allison Era made it 2-0 with a short-handed goal from Justine Fisher. Jenny Kistner gave Plattsburgh (6-2-1, 5-0-1 ECAC West) a three-goal lead as she took a long pass from Chelsea VanGlahn and scored on a breakaway at 14:15 of the second period.
Emma Rutherford stretched it to 4-0 Plattsburgh at 14:27 of the third period with seventh of the season from Morgan MacInnis.
Buffalo State (4-4-1, 3-3-1 ECAC West) broke up the shutout with just 12 seconds to spare as Courtney Carnes buried a feed from Melissa Ash to make it 4-1.
The Cardinals outshot the Bengals, 42-21. Plattsburgh goaltender Sydney Aveson recorded 20 saves and improves to 5-1-0 on the year. Bengals' goalie Jordan Lee stopped 38 of the 42 shots she faced.
The two teams return to the ice Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. to close out the two-game series.
