Fields, Perez Lead Plattsburgh in 74-67 Win over Brockport

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - John Perez notched his fourth double-double of the year to lead the Plattsburgh State men’s basketball team (4-5, 2-3 SUNYAC) to a 74-67 victory over The College at Brockport (2-7, 1-2 SUNYAC) Saturday.

Shavar Fields led all scorers with 21 points on 9 for 19 shooting. Ketema Brooks put on an impressive passing display, racking up 11 assists as he continues to climb the all-time assists chart. Brooks has 324 assists, which is good for fourth all-time.

The Cardinals were tied with the Golden Eagles 30-30 at half, and led only twice in the first half. Perez led the charge with 13 second half points as he recorded 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Three Golden Eagles reached double-figures on the night. Lance Legister led the way with 13 points for Brockport. Donnell Jackson and Gerald Williams contributed 11 points apiece to keep the Golden Eagles within touching distance of the Cardinals.

The Cardinals controlled their offensive board, outrebounding the Golden Eagles 16-9. The Golden Eagles shot 35.2 percent from the field and the Cardinals hit 43.8 percent of their field goals.

The Cardinals are off for three weeks before traveling to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. for the Miami Classic Dec. 30-31. Plattsburgh will take on Saint Vincent College in the first day of tournament play.
