PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - John Perez scored 14 points as the Plattsburgh State men’s basketball team recorded a 58-54 victory over St. Lawrence in the team’s home opener. The Cardinals improve to 2-2 on the year.
With the Cardinals down four points and the clock at 2:21, Perez finished a spectacular alley-oop play to swing the momentum in their favor. Shamoy McIntosh then hit a 3-point shot with 1:17 remaining to give the Cardinals the lead for good.
McIntosh, Josh Bruno and Shavar Fields also reached double figures for the Cardinals. McIntosh went 3-3 from three-point range and 4-7 overall. Perez went 6-10 to lead all scorers, Bruno went 4-9 and Fields went 5-11.
St. Lawrence (2-2) shot 21-55. Brady Condlin and Terry Parham both recorded 11 points to lead the Saints. Ralph Temgoua and Payton Stahler both chipped in with seven points each and Janpeter Brase grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Cardinals travel to Cortland and Oswego this weekend for their SUNYAC conference opener. Plattsburgh takes on Cortland on Friday at 8 p.m. and Oswego Saturday for a 4 p.m. start.
