BRUNSWICK, Maine – Chelsea VanGlahn netted four goals at the Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team scored six in the third period to top Bowdoin, 7-0, in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon.
The game remained close for the first 40 minutes as Plattsburgh (5-0-1, 4-0-1 ECAC West) had a 1-0 lead heading into the third after Morgan McInnis tallied her first of the year at 12:07 of the first from Ashton Hogan and Shannon Stewart.
After a scoreless second period, Teal Gove scored a power-play goal at 4:15 of the third and then the floodgates opened. VanGlahn scored the next two, both from Jordan Caldwell, before Stewart picked up a goal of her own at 17:16 of the final period.
VanGlahn completed the hat trick with an unassisted goal at 18:54 before tacking on one more with just 30 second left in regulation.
Plattsburgh outshot Bowdoin (0-1-0), 33-8. The Cardinals went 1-for-5 on the power play while Bowdoin went 0-for-4.
Sydney Aveson improved to 4-0 in the Plattsburgh net with 18 saves in the shutout. Tara Connolly recorded 26 saves in the Bowdoin net.
Next up, the Cardinals host three of top teams in Division III women’s hockey for the Cardinal/Panther Classic Nov. 26-27. Plattsburgh will play Amherst Saturday at 4 p.m. before Middlebury and Elmira battle it out at 7 p.m. The third-place and championship games will follow on Sunday at 2 and 5 p.m., respectively.
