PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The last time Potsdam came to Plattsburgh, neither team was able to find the back of the net. This day was different as the Cardinals netted two goals in each half to defeat Potsdam, 4-0, in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Quarterfinals.

Plattsburgh struck early as Pat Shaughnessy scored his 13th of the season off a cross from Tom Greene at the 10:32 mark. Mike Payne made it 2-0, beating Potsdam goalkeeper Joe Glackin to the left side at 29:49. Wade Goehle was credited with an assist on Payne’s goal.

Freshman Nate Economou was the star of the second half, scoring his first collegiate goal at 50:37 from Nick Parella.  Exactly ten minutes later Economou struck again, this time from Greene.

The Cardinals (13-4-2, 4-3-2 SUNYAC) dominated with a 20-7 margin in shots. Potsdam (7-9-3, 4-3-2 SUNYAC) took four corner kicks, while Plattsburgh took three.

Plattsburgh goalie Andy Heighington made three saves in his seventh shutout of the year. Glackin stopped six of the 10 shots he faced in the Potsdam loss.

Plattsburgh advances to the SUNYAC semifinals where they will travel to top-seeded Oneonta on Wednesday.
