Cardinal Volleyball Takes Third at Hartwick Invitational

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State volleyball team took third place at the Hartwick Invitational over the weekend.  The Cardinals completed a 3-1 weekend, defeating Hamilton and Utica on Friday and topping Utica again Saturday afternoon. 
 
Plattsburgh opened the tournament with a five set victory over Hamilton on Friday (21-25, 27-25, 20-25, 28-26, 15-11).  Andrea Kalter had 25 digs and Kayla Nason contributed 42 assists.  Theresa Lilly added 16 kills and 15 digs.
 
The Cardinals also took their second match Friday, a 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-8) win over Utica.  Rosi Cummings finished with 10 kills, two service aces and seven digs.  Keely Fink had a team-best nine digs and six aces.
 
Plattsburgh lost its only match over the weekend to Hartwick on Saturday, falling 3-0 (23-25, 20-25, 23-25).  Four Cardinals reached double-digits in digs with Kalter leading the way with 28.  Cummings added 10 kills and Nason gave the Cardinals 26 assists.
 
The Cardinals rebounded in their final match on Saturday, a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-20) win over Utica.  Cummings again posted a team-high with 12 kills.  Nason had 16 assists and Meghan Clifford added 13 assists of her own.  Kalter tallied seven digs, finishing with 60 total digs for the weekend. 
 
Kalter represented the Cardinals on the Hartwick Invitational All-Tournament Team.
 
Plattsburgh, who improved to 12-13, will host SUNYAC Pool Play this weekend.  Play starts at 3 p.m. Friday at Memorial Hall.
