PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – A late goal by Bryan Pacchiana spoiled the afternoon for the nationally-ranked No. 13 Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team as the Cardinals played Oswego State to a 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon at the Field House Soccer Complex.
After a scoreless first half, Nick Parella’s header off a free kick found the back of the net in the 46th minute to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Mike Payne assisted on the Plattsburgh goal.
With less that nine minutes left in regulation, Pacchiana buried a pass from Andrew McBride to tie the game at 1-all.
Oswego keeper PJ Goodwin was the difference maker for the Lakers, making seven stops. Andy Heighington recorded four saves for Plattsburgh in the tie.
Plattsburgh continues to outshoot its opponents, finishing the day with a 13-9 edge over Oswego. The Cardinals took six corner kicks, while the Lakers took three.
The Cardinals remain unbeaten on the year at 9-0-2, 1-0-2 in SUNYAC play. The Lakers move to 5-4-1, 0-3-1 in the conference.
Plattsburgh won the penalty kick shootout, 5-4, which is used as the first tiebreaker between teams to determine seedings for the SUNYAC tournament.
The Cardinals hit the road next weekend for two more conference matchups. Plattsburgh will face New Paltz Friday at 4 p.m. before travelling to Oneonta for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday.
