Cardinals fall to visiting Middlebury

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.--Kathleen Payne scored a career-high 20 points off the bench on Tuesday night, but it wasn't enough as the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team fell to visiting Middlebury College, 70-61, at Memorial Hall. The Cardinals dip to 2-5 overall while the Panthers improve to 7-1 after the non-conference game between the regional opponents.

Brittany Perfetti scored 19 to lead the Panthers, while Maddie Moreau added 18 points. Stephany Surrette scored seven with 10 boards, while Jesse Miller also grabbed 10 boards.

Taylor Amarando also recorded a double-double for the Cardinals with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Middlebury pulled away midway through the second half, converting 24 of 32 free throws in the game.

The game was tied at 39 at the intermission, with Middlebury holding a slim second half lead until the Cardinals tied the game at the 12:40 mark. The Panthers followed with a decisive 10-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 64-54 advantage with 7:17 remaining. Moreau and Perfetti each scored four points during the run.

Plattsburgh shot .511 from the floor, went 0-1 from three-point range, while converting just 15 of 24 free throws. Middlebury shot .339 from the floor and went 4-9 from long range.

The Panthers also scored 25 points off 30 Cardinal turnovers.
