Plattsburgh Completes Weekend Sweep with 6-2 Win over Oswego

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Four players tallied multiple points as the Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team skated to a 6-2 win over Oswego State in an Eastern College Athletic Conference West game.  The nationally-ranked No. 3 Cardinals improve to 14-2-3, with a 10-1-2 record in ECAC West play.  The Lakers drop to 9-8-3 overall and 5-6-3 in conference play.

The Cardinals scored three unanswered goals in the first period, two of them on the power play.  Kara Buehler opened the scoring at the 8:06 mark with an unassisted power-play goal.  Steph Moon buried Erika Shaubel’s rebound at 14:57.  With 40 seconds to play in the period, Shaubel picked up her third of the year from Teal Gove, stretching the lead to 3-0.

Mackenzie Lee scored both Oswego goals on the afternoon, one with just 58 seconds gone in the second period and the other at the 13:30 mark of the second.  Jillian Bergeron also picked up two assists for the Lakers.

Gove and Kylie Klassen each finished the day with a goal and an assist.  Brittany Meade added two assists for the Cardinals.

Plattsburgh dominated Oswego with a 48-14 advantage in shots.  The Cardinals went 3-for-6 on the power play, while the Lakers went 1-for-3.

Mandy Mackrell was not tested often, making 12 saves.  Oswego goaltender Emi Williams turned away 42 shots in the loss.

The Cardinals return to the ice this Wednesday to host Potsdam at 7 p.m. at the Stafford Ice Arena.
