Cardinals Top Middlebury, 5-0, in Third Place Game

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.
-  Steph Moon and Teal Gove each tallied two points as the Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team defeated the Middlebury Panthers, 5-0, in the Third Place Game of the Cardinal/Panther Classic.  Tonight’s win marks the largest margin of victory for either team in their 19 meetings.

The Cardinals scored four times in the second period, receiving goals from Teal Gove, Helen Giroux, Alanna Moir and Brittany Meade.

Chelsea VanGlahn added her second of the year at 16:27 of the third period to round out the scoring for Plattsburgh.

The Cardinals gave a dominant effort, outshooting the Panthers 48-20.  Sydney Aveson recorded 20 saves for her third win and first shutout of the year.

Laura Pinsent and Alexi Bloom split time in the Middlebury net.  Pinsent stopped 23 shots and suffered the loss.  Bloom made 20 saves for the Panthers.

Plattsburgh improves to 9-1-1 on the year.  Middlebury now stands at 6-2-0.  The Cardinals return to action this Saturday, Jan. 8 as they travel to Manhattanville.
