Ruiz posts double-double as Cardinals fly by Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y.
— Chris Ruiz notched a double-double including a game-high 26 points to lead Plattsburgh State to a 75-59 State University of New York Athletic Conference win on the road Friday night.

Ruiz hauled in 10 rebounds and shot 10-for-20 from the field for the Cardinals. Steve Thomas and Errol Daniyan were also in double digits in scoring for the Cardinals, netting 19 and 14 points, respectively.

Troy Talbot led the attack for the Red Dragons, dropping a team-high 16 points on 5-for-11 shooting. His three assists also led the team.

The Cardinals led by six at halftime and were able to fend off the Red Dragons by shooting an even 50 percent (17-for-34) in the second half and outscoring Oneonta by 10. Plattsburgh outrebounded the Red Dragons at a 41-35 clip and committed five fewer turnovers.

With the win, the Cardinals maintained their second-place standing in the SUNYAC, moving to 7-2 in conference play and 11-5 overall. Oneonta drops to .500 at 5-5 in the SUNYAC, 6-11 overall.

Plattsburgh will close out the weekend Saturday afternoon against New Paltz. The game is slated for 4 p.m.
