PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.– This one didn’t come easy for the Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team, as the Cardinals defeated Brockport, 4-2, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference matchup at the Stafford Ice Arena. Plattsburgh improves to 13-4-1 overall and 6-4-0 in conference play.
Kyle Taylor gave Plattsburgh the first lead of the night at 7:15 of the first period. That lead didn’t last long, as Bobby Connor tallied his fourth of the year for Brockport at 9:08 to tie the game at 1-1.
James Cody netted a power-play goal at 12:32 of the first to give the Golden Eagles a 2-1 lead after one period of play.
Dylan Clarke picked up a power-play goal at the 12:57 mark of the second period to tie the game at 2-2.
The Cardinals bounced back in the third period, scoring twice to put the game away. Eric Satim scored his ninth of the season from Nick Jensen and Ryan Craig. Late in the period, Nick Jensen found the back of the net. Satim was credited with the assist on the goal.
Plattsburgh outshot Brockport, 36-28. Oliver Wren recorded 32 saves for the Golden Eagles. Plattsburgh goaltender Josh Leis turned away 26 shots to improve to 12-1-1.
The 2001 National Championship team and the late Cardinal hockey player, Mike Daoust were honored prior to tonight’s game.
Plattsburgh returns to action next Friday, Jan. 28 when SUNY Cortland makes the trip to Stafford Ice Arena.
