Ruiz' perimeter game lifts Men's Basketball at Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y.--Senior All-America guard Chris Ruiz scored a game-high 16 points on 4-of-6 from 3-point range to lead the Plattsburgh State men's basketball team to a 69-57 victory Friday over host Cortland in State University of New York Athletic Conference play at Corey Gymnasium. The Cardinals improve to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC while the Red Dragons (3-9) remain winless in five starts in the conference.

Plattsburgh, which made 8 of 16 shots beyond the arc, also got nine points from Carl Munnerlyn--all from the perimeter.

Jesse Winter led Cortland with 16 points, John Connolly had 11 and Jeremy Smith scored 10.

Plattsburgh led buzzer-to-buzzer and enjoyed a 30-26 haftime lead.

Shavar Fields (8 points) and Errol Daniyan each had eight rebounds for the Cardinals. Dan Sternkppf had seven boards for the Red Dragons.

With Plattsburgh leading 33-31 just 2 minutes into the second half, Daniyan ignited a 15-3 run with a layup to put the Cardinals up 48-34 with 13:45 to go. Cortland trailed by double digits for most of the second half.
