Boxscore and Play-by-Play
NORTHFIELD, Vt.--Despite holding one-sided advantages in shots, corner kicks and possession time, the Plattsburgh State men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie at Norwich in non-conference action Wednesday at Howard Field. The visiting Cardinals remain undefeated at 2-0-1 while the Cadets now stand at 2-1-1.
Midway through the first half, Plattsburgh thought it struck first on the scoreboard but Danny Byrnes' goal was disallowed due to offsides. Several minutes later, Chris Taylor hit the crossbar from the top of the box and Pat Shaughnessy's header from 6 yards out just went right of goal.
The Cardinals outshot Norwich 19 to 9 for the game and allowed the first two corner kicks of 2010 while earning nine of their own.
Then in the second half, Norwich was able to sustain some offensive pressure as Jake Leclaire and Ryan Robertson were able to get several quality shots off against Plattsburgh goalie Andy Heighington, who finished with three saves.
But freshman keeper Alex Toomey stood tall in the Cadets goal with nine stops.
