Volleyball Shut Out at SUNYAC Pool Play in New Paltz

Cardinals fall to Cortland and Oneonta on Saturday

Theresa Lilly led the Cardinals with 23 kills at SUNYAC Pool Play in New Paltz this weekend.

NEW PALTZ, N.Y.--The Plattsburgh State volleyball team lost a pair of 3-0 sweeps at the hands of Cortland and Oneonta on Saturday to wrap up the first round of State University of New York Athletic Conference pool play at the Hawk Center, where the Cardinals wound up 0-4 in conference action to fall to 2-14 overall.

On Friday, host New Paltz beat Plattsburgh 25-20, 25-18, 25-15. Theresa Lilly and Kristin Saheim paced the Cardinals offense with eight and seven kills, respectively. Lilly hit .286 with two errors in 21 attack attempts, and Saheim was even more efficient with a .429 clip (1 error, 14 attempts). Andrea Kalter had 15 digs and Amanda Wickers, 12; and Kayla Nason posted 17 assists.

Against Potsdam, a hard-fought 27-25, 25-23, 25-18 loss to the Bears, Saheim spiked 11 kills and hit .550 with no attack errors and Nason made 27 assists.

On Saturday, the Plattsburgh offense was not in sync in a 25-13, 25-17, 25-15 loss to Cortland. The Cardinals made 23 hitting errors to finish minus-.096 for the match. Lilly had a team-best five kills.

Oneonta defeated the Cardinals 25-15, 25-23, 25-21 taking advantage of a Plattsburgh offense that again had more hitting errors (21) than kills (20). Abby Mell had six kills and three blocks.
