Cardinals Slay Red Dragons Behind Moon Line

Junior Center's Line Combines for 12 Points

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Junior center Steph Moon notched a career-high five points, including four assists, to help lead top-ranked Plattsburgh State to an 8-1 thumping of Cortland in Eastern College Athletic Conference West Division women's hockey action on Friday at the Stafford Ice Arena.  The Cardinals extend their record to 16-1-1 overall (13-0-1 ECAC-West) while the Red Dragons drop to 4-14-1 (3-9-1).  BOXSCORE

Moon's linemates Laurie Bowler and Megan DiJulio also shined with four and three points, respectively.  Bowler scored two goals in the first period to help the Cardinals forge a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes. She recorded her 10th of the year just 1 minute and 34 seconds into the game, and then added No. 11 just 15 seconds after Cortland tied it at 1-1.  DiJulio scored her team-leading 16th and 17th goals in the third period.

Bowler moved into sixth place on the Plattsburgh career scoring list with 111 points, surpassing Jessica Moreau who had 109 from 2003-07.

Danielle Scharf scored the Red Dragons' lone goal--her fifth on the year--at the 15:26 mark of the first period.  Maggie Giamo and Erika Osborne were credited with the assists.

Plattsburgh blew the game wide open with three goals in the second period. Moon and Jordan Caldwell, twice, found the back of the net for a 6-1 cushion.

The Cardinals went 2-for-5 on the power play and outshot the Red Dragons by a 46 to 11 margin.
