PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Heather McCormack's power play goal in the second period lifted visiting Middlebury College to a 1-1 draw with top-ranked Plattsburgh State in non-conference women's hockey action on Wednesday at the Stafford Ice Arena. The No. 7-ranked Panthers now stand at 13-5-2 overall. The Cardinals (17-1-2) ran their all-Divisions-best unbeaten streak to 10-0-2, and the all-time series between the regional rivals remains tied at 7-7-3. BOXSCORE
McCormack recorded her fourth goal of the season 8 minutes and 24 seconds into the middle period when she deflected a Anna McNally blast from the point. Heather Marrison was also credited with an assist on the play.
Laurie Bowler gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead 5:16 after the opening face-off during a scramble in front of the Middlebury net. Teal Gove and Megan DiJulio assisted on Bowler's 12th goal.
Plattsburgh had a 33 to 25 shots on goal advantage, including a 14-6 margin in the second. Both teams had solid chances in the 5-minute extra session, but neither could get the game-winning goal.
The goaltending was strong as Alexi Bloom had 32 saves for Middlebury while Mandy Mackrell posted 24 for Plattsburgh, which is 5-0-3 in the last eight meetings. Plattsburgh applied more offensive pressure after the equalizing goal and had seven shots--including several from point-blank range--during a 2-minute power play late in the second period, but Bloom came up big.
