SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.
– The Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team is heading into the break on the right foot, defeating Skidmore 4-1, in its final game of the first semester.  The Cardinals improve to 7-4-0.  The Thoroughbreds drop to 3-4-1.

Dan Sliasis scored at 7:19 of the first period to give Plattsburgh a 1-0 after one period of play.

The Cardinals stretched the lead 2-0 on Kyle Kudroch’s sixth of the season at 8:11 of the second period.  Dylan Clarke was credited with an assist on the eventual game-winner.

The Thoroughbreds jumped into the game on Vlad Gavrik’s power-play goal with six minutes to play in the period, but that was all of offense that Skidmore would muster on this night.

The Cardinals added two more goals in the third period to secure their fifth straight win.  Kyle Taylor’s first of the season from Mike Grace and Ryan Farnan came at the 11:20 mark of the third period.  Matt MacLeod added an empty-net goal with 17 seconds left in the game.

Josh Leis recorded 17 saves and improved his record to 6-1-0.  Colin Bessey made 33 stops for Skidmore.

Plattsburgh will return to action on December 31 as they host the annual Cardinal Classic at the Stafford Ice Arena.  The Cardinals are slated to play Curry College at 4 p.m. in the first day of the tournament.
