PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.--The Plattsburgh State men's basketball team made 21 of its 24 attempts at the free throw line on Saturday to defeat visiting Oneonta State, 69-60, in the schools' first meeting since last season's State University of New York Athletic Conference championship game won by the host Cardinals at Memorial Hall. The Cardinals improve to 6-1 on the year, including 2-0 in the SUNYAC, while the Red Dragons fall to 1-4 and 1-1 in the conference.

Carl Munnerlyn led Plattsburgh with 17 points, and Chris Ruiz and Steve Thomas chipped in 12 apiece.

Troy Talbot paced Oneonta with 19 points and Brian Hooks added 13.

Plattsburgh won the game at the charity stripe and on the glass. Coming into the game, the Cardinals had a free throw season average of .687 but made 87.5 percent this afternoon. Plattsburgh also used its size and athleticism to outrebound Oneonta 45 to 34.

Oneonta led briefly midway through the first half until Plattsburgh eventually built a 27-18 halftime lead. The Cardinals led throughout the second half and led by as many as 22 points.
