PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.--Errol Daniyan had team highs of 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting and 17 rebounds, and Steve Thomas added 18 points, to lead the nationally ranked Plattsburgh State men's basketball team to a 75-70 non-conference victory Tuesday over Clarkson in a battle of North Country teams at Memorial Hall. The No. 22 Cardinals improve to 3-1 overall while going to 8-0 in home openers under Coach Tom Curle. The Golden Knights, meanwhile, lost for the first time in four outings.

Clarkson's Jonathan Hood led all players with 20 points and had a team-best eight rebounds to go along with three steals. Felix Llanos added 19 points and Rey Jefferson chipped in 17 as both sharpshooters had three 3-pointers.

Fresh off his first career State University of New York Athletic Conference player of the week nod, Daniyan took sole possession of 11th place on the school's all-time scoring list (1036). The senior forward also moved into 10th on the Cardinals career rebounding chart with 572, supplanting Don Verkey who hauled down 566 rebounds from 1971 to 1973.

The Golden Knights came out firing in the opening 10 minutes of the game by working the ball down low and then kicking it out for an open shooter around the perimeter. Llanos hit a 3-pointer and Jefferson added back-to-back treys to key a 10-2 run that broke a 5-5 tie and resulted in the visitor's largest lead of the night at 15-7.

Plattsburgh's defense adjusted and eventually took a 38-33 halftime lead. In the second half, Thomas nailed a 3-pointer to put Plattsburgh ahead for good at 50-48 with 11 minutes and 29 seconds left.

The Cardinals dominated on the glass by a 43-32 advantage and in the paint, outscoring Clarkson 36-18.

Chris Ruiz and Carl Munnerlyn also scored in double digits for the Cardinals with 13 points apiece. Ruiz added seven rebounds and five assists.
