PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team continues to struggle finding the back of the net, falling to the Buffalo State Bengals, 6-2, in State University of New York Athletic Conference action at the Stafford Ice Arena. The Cardinals drop to 2-4-0, while the Bengals improve to 3-2-1.
Buffalo State jumped to a 1-0 lead late in the first period on a goal from Mike Zannella from Zach Hale and Drew Klin.
Plattsburgh scored twice in the first seven minutes of the second period to grab their only lead of the night. Kyle Kudroch scored his third of the year on the power-play from Ryan Corry and Nick Jensen. Three and a half minutes later, Dylan Clarke netted his fifth of the season to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.
The Bengals regained momentum with two goals of their own, one from Justin Knee at 7:41 and the other from Mac Balson in the final minute of period. Buffalo State tacked on three more goals in the third period to put the Cardinals away.
Despite the outcome, Plattsburgh held the edge in shots 45-27. Kevin Carr made 43 saves in his third victory for the Bengals. Freshman goaltender Sam Foley had 21 stops in his first start as a Cardinal.
