PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.--Chris Taylor became the all-time assists leader in Plattsburgh State men's soccer history on Saturday as the Cardinals defeated visiting New Paltz, 3-0, at the Field House Complex. Plattsburgh improves to 10-2-1 overall, including 4-2 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference, while the Hawks drop to 6-7 and 3-4 in the SUNYAC.

Plattsburgh got all the scoring it would need in the 28th minute on a set piece. From just outside right of the penalty area, Taylor sent a free kick into the middle of the box where Matt Martin converted his first career goal from close range.

In the second half, the Cardinals added insurance tallies by Pat Shaughnessy in the 59th minute and Matt Hamilton in the 87th. Taylor's record-setting 33rd assist of his career occurred on Hamilton's fourth goal of the season, sending a free kick to a wide-open Hamilton.

Rich King, the previous record holder, compiled 32 assists from 1993 to 1996.

Andy Heighington made several key saves--six total--to preserve his ninth shutout. Heighington went to his right to stop a 25-yard blast by Tommy Garafola in the first half, and then in the second half he had to deflect a chip-shot that glanced off the crossbar for a New Paltz corner kick.
